Emoji Park Sugar Rush with the Broski and KK

Do you use emojis? What am I asking, a lot of people use emojis (Yes Skype and Yahoo Messenger users, you too!). From people peppering their messages with a couple to actually sending emojis to accurately describe what they're feeling/doing/wanting etc. It's pretty normal to send a *pleading* emoji instead of typing out please oh please oh please let me borrow the car tonight.

And Krispy Kreme knows the pull of emojis in giving a little flavor to how we communicate.

This 2016 you can decorate your doughnuts with meaningful (or just nonsense, depends on how you use it) emojis through Krispy Kreme's emoji sprinkles — part of their #EmojiMagic year-long campaign.

Aside from the usual emojis available all-throughout the year, there'll also be seasonal/holiday specific emojis available... Will they have one for this coming Labor Day though?

Me and my brother went to Krispy Kreme's flagship store at BGC to go to their "Emoji Park" last February 20th to witness the #EmojiMagic first-hand and to #ShareTheKK. We took a look at the different doughnuts, played some games, checked-out the design-your-doughnut booth, took pictures at the emoji wall and enjoyed the general atmosphere.

The kid had a lot of fun...

Ok fine. I did too. I mean both of us basically consumed our sugar limit for the day within a few minutes so we were pretty jacked-up.

If you're near a KK check out the emoji doughnut sprinkles and #ShareTheKK with everyone!

Do you use emojis? Which are your most used ones?

CJ

PS. Sugar is addictive. Only take the appropriate amount within the daily limit. For the most part, I only get my processed sugar fix in coffee. Sugaaaar why can't I quit youuuuuu? *shakes fist in the air*

empties-march-2016-rucys-vanity-biore-oil-za-day-protector-khiels-kiehls-mentholatum-lipice-the-face-shop-cream-cleansing-evian-mist-physiogel-review-1
I was going to name this February Empties but I just recently finished a couple more products so I went with March. Here are mini reviews from my trash again. Yay!

Evian Natural Mineral Water Facial Spray | 150ml | PHP 349

It's an aerosol mineral facial mist. You can refresh your face/makeup or set your makeup. It works well. I mean it's just special water from the glaciers. I think mineral water or purified water in an atomizer will work just as well. I just wanted to try if it gives a finer mist — It doesn't. There're are still some droplets from the nozzle and it got worse as I used it.

I also feel iffy about using aerosols. There aren't CFC's anymore to most aerosols but still, it adds to my carbon footprint. Pass.

Claims
  • Hydrates - Check
  • Helps fix makeup - Sets yes.
  • Freshens - Sure I felt refreshed.
Ingredients: Pure Natural Evian Mineral Water. Propelled by Nitrogen.

Avon Naturals Body Care | Papaya and Soy Milk Shower Gel | 200ml net

Just a regular body wash gel with SLS. What's new. Smells good and didn't strip my skin of its oils. Didn't notice my skin lightening so there's that. It was a gift and I didn't want it to go to waste. It's okay. Wouldn't repurchase.

Claims
Lightens and moisturizes with:
  • Papaya Fruit Extract - Papain lightens, smoothens and softens skin
  • Soybean extract - Rich with skin balancing nutrients
  • Hydrolyzed Milk Protein - Skin conditioning properties
Ingredients: Water, SLS, Glycerin, Cocamide Mea, Sodium Chloride, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polysorbate 20, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Peg-150, Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate, Phosphoric Acid, Hydrolyzed Milk Protein, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Carica Papaya Fruit Extract, Glycine Soja (soybean) Seed Extract, Methylisothiazolinone

Physiogel Daily Moisture Therapy - Dermo Cleanser | 300ml | Php 350

Didn't break me out and very gentle for my sensitive skin. Same as other soap-free gentle creamy cleansers marketed for sensitive skin — SkinKlens, Cetaphil, Vecirin. Would recommend for kids and adults who have sensitive (or dry) skin or are allergic to most cleansers/soaps out there.

Claims
  • For Dry and Sensitive Skin
  • Mild and gentle
  • PH balanced
  • Soap Free
  • Clinically tested by dermatologists
Ingredients: Aqua, PEG-75, Cetearyl Alcohol, Disodium Phosphate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Methylparaben, Citric Acid, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Parfum

Biore | 150ml | PHP 299

This #1 selling cleansing oil from Japan came to the Philippines a couple of months back and I was so happy that they did because I love cleansing oils for removing makeup. It just makes makeup removal easier and removes even waterproof mascara. Yes. 10/10 would repurchase.

Claims
  • No greasy feeling after use - Check. Skin feels moist, plump but not greasy.
  • Gentle and mild on skin - Check. My skin's quite sensitive
  • Refreshing fragrance - Like apples? Very fruity
Ingredients: Mineral Oil, Peg-12 Laurate, Isododecane, Water, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Polyglyceryl-2 Isostearate, Decyl Glucoside, Polysorbate 85, Glyceryl Oleate, Isostearic Acid, Isostearyl Glyceryl Ether, Isostearyl Glyceryl Pentaerythrityl Ether, Myristyl Alcohol, Alcohol, Citric Acid, Phosphoric Acid, BHT, Fragrance, Tocopherol

Rucy's Vanity Whitening Body Lotion | 100ml | PHP 120

It's a non-sticky, moisturizing body lotion. Smells good and decent. Again, I can't prove the whitening factor of this but it's cheap and it works.

Claims

  • Makes your skin whiten, soft and elastic.
  • Protect your skin from free radicals, contaminations and irritations.
  • Contains extracts of aloe vera, portulaca, moraceae, centella and green tea to calm and soothe skin.

Yay cheap Korean beauty products!

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) seed Oil, Butylene Glycol, Dipropylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Macadamia Tegrifolia Seed Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Beeswawx, Dimethicone, Sorbitan Stearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Sodium Hyaluronate, Fragrance, Methylparaben, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Butylparaben, Prunus Persica (peach) Fruit Extract, Betaine, Camellia Sinesis Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA, Niacinamide

ZA True White Day Protector SPF 26 PA ++ | 35g net weight | PHP 495

A really really good everyday face moisturizer with sunscreen. It's easy to spread using the fingers (you don't need a lot), feels light on the skin (absorbs/dries quickly) and isn't drying nor is it sticky/greasy. The finish is natural / demi-matte and it doesn't have a strong scent to it. I also never broke out. The SA said people really clamor to get this because it works well as a makeup primer, probably because of its finish. Super dry skinned people might want something more hydrating to accompany this.

The packaging is also slim and compact and has a slim nozzle tip so you only get what you need. 10/10 would (repurchase) recommend it to anyone looking for a nice everyday non-sticky moisturizing sunscreen. It's a measly 26 PA++ but you can double up the sun protection with a foundation/bb/cc that has SPF as well if you're planning on being out in the sun the whole day.

Claims
  • Has vitamins C, E and Minerals
  • Protects skin from UV rays while also brightening and moisturizing
  • Veils skin with a bright, pearly radiance that enhances skin tone for a healthy look
Ingredients: Aqua, Cyclomethicone, Dipropylene Glycol, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Titanium Dioxide (nano), PEG-10 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Titanium Dioxide, Alcohol, Isostearic Acid, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Trisodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Potassium Hydroxide, Silica, Sodium Citrate, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Polysilicone-2, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, BHT, Citric Acid, Magnesium Chloride, Citronellol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Linalool, Calcium Chloride, Tocopherol

Kiehl's Lip Balm | 15ml | $7

Works well for my constantly chapped dry lips. It honestly feels and smells like regular petroleum jelly so if you're trying to save regular vaseline works just as well. But if you're after their other ingredients like Vitamin E, Squalene, Aloe Vera and Wheat Germ Oil then maybe you can check this out.

Claims
  • Helps soothe dry lips - Yep!
  • Temporarily protects lips
  • Shields from drying effects of wind/cold weather
Ingredients: Petrolatum, Squalane, Lanolin, Triticum Vulgare Germ Oil / Wheat Germ Oil, Pentylene Glycol, Tocopherol, Caprylyl Glycol, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Extract / Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract. Ingredients are subject to change at the manufacturer's discretion.

The Face Shop Herb Day Cleansing Cream | 150ml | Approx PHP 250 - 300

It's a very oily cleansing cream. Whenever you use a cleansing cream, you always have to follow up with your normal face cleanser. I think this goes for most makeup removers. It breaks down makeup well except waterproof mascara - there're still traces left so a separate eye makeup remover is needed. Very affordable and economical - you only need a teaspoonful at most. I use this in conjunction with a damp muslin cloth/face towel or wet wipes. Similar to Etude's Tea Time Cleansing Cream but Etude's has more product. 10/10 would recommend.

Claims

  • For all skin types
  • Suggested for dead skin cells
  • 5 Combined Cereal / 5 Grain Extract
Ingredients: Water, Mineral Oil, Dipropylene Glycol, Isopropyl Myristate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60, Cetearyl Glucoside, Sorbitan Olivate, Dimethicone, Hordeum Distichon (Barley) Extract, Pancum Miliaceum (Millet) Seed Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Phaseolus Radiatus Extract, Salva Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Aspalathus Linearis Extract, Lilium Candidum Flower Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Borago Officinalis Extract, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract, Glycerin, Lauric Acid, Carbomer, Butylene Glycol, Potassium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Caramel, Methyl Paraben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

Mentholatum Lip Balm SPF15 Lemon | 3.5g | Around Php 120 - 150
Would recommend just for the SPF 15. It doesn't fix flaky borderline bruised lips, but it's a decent clear mentholated lip balm. You actually need SPF for your lips so check out lipbalms with SPF. Decent buy. Came in a 2-pack so it's super cheap.

Can't find the ingredients :( Sorry!

What have you finished up lately? Any skincare/makeup?

A Review : Lip Tattoos or Lip Tint Packs | Must try?

lip-tint-tattoo-lip-tint-pack-secret-key-chubby-jelly-review-1
Spoiler alert : Save your coin.

lip-tint-tattoo-lip-tint-pack-secret-key-chubby-jelly-review-2
I mentioned this lip tint pack in the past - here and here. Long story short, my curiosity got the better of me and since it wasn't that expensive I gave it a try.

A lip tint pack/tint mask is a peel-off mask for your lips. You deposit the colour straight from the tube (don't use your fingers) wait a few minutes, peel it off then voila, lightly tinted lips.

Now these are relatively cheap no matter where you buy them. One tube definitely shouldn't be over $13 for something you only want to try out because it's so gimmicky. Although brands vary in price point, there's always a cheaper brand selling this. Case in point- Secret Key.

lip-tint-tattoo-lip-tint-pack-secret-key-chubby-jelly-review-3Secret Key Chubby Jelly Tint Pack 15g - Plum Purple

lip-tint-tattoo-lip-tint-pack-secret-key-chubby-jelly-review-4
lip-tint-tattoo-lip-tint-pack-secret-key-chubby-jelly-review-5
Consistency | Scent | Color | Usage

The price however cheap is not proportional to how much is inside and how much you need to apply each time. You need to apply a thick layer on the lips so that when you peel it off the colour is even. So 15g won't last a long time.

Waiting time for this is also too long. Before you peel it off it should be completely touch-dry and that takes around 5 - 10 minutes depending on how much you put on and if you're in a cool/dry place.

lip-tint-tattoo-lip-tint-pack-secret-key-chubby-jelly-review-6

It has a candy-like sweet scent to it. No discernable taste though. The colour stated is "Plum Purple" but in reality it's more off a purple-based cherry pink.

I don't find it particularly drying but if you have excess skin on your lips this will get caught in it when the time comes for the tint to be peeled-off.

lip-tint-tattoo-lip-tint-pack-secret-key-chubby-jelly-review-7

Conclusion | Final Thoughts

It's just not worth it : The waiting time. The amount VS. price. A regular tint works just as well and stays on the lips just as long. This one also fades a little when eating and drinking. Same as any old affordable tint from roadshop brands like Etude, Tony Moly and Missha. (Note: If applied full-on, in a thick layer it will last really long through eating and drinking, but application waiting time will be brutal. Haha Unless you're in front of a fan)

If you just want to try it for the heck of it. Go ahead. But it's not really a must-have for me. I got this from Mei Satsuki (Facebook) I think.

Have you tried this? If you haven't would you try it?

6 Tips for False Lash Beginners

$

false-eyelashes-beginners-tips-and-tricks-how-to-philippine-giveaway-1I very briefly considered getting eyelash extensions, but when articles, blogs and people I personally know kept saying that some of their own lashes always came off with the extensions, I shot that notion in the head at once. I wanted more lashes not less.

false-eyelashes-beginners-tips-and-tricks-how-to-philippine-giveaway-2
Personally, false lashes are more of a once-in-a-blue-moon-if-I-can-be-bothered kind of thing partly because I'm bad at it. If you've ever wondered why your lashes seem to not-exist at night in pictures, that's 'coz the flash wash them out, which is why typically you see people wear falsies when photos are involved and/or at night events.

I'm still learning [after a lot of bad lash experiences in the past] but I've definitely accumulated some tips throughout my foray into the #falsiesLife. If you're also new to false lashes and don't know where to start here are some tips and tricks to get you started.

false-eyelashes-beginners-tips-and-tricks-how-to-philippine-giveaway-3

The thinner the band, The more natural it looks

There are certain things to consider when you're looking for a good pair of lashes. Usually plastic-looking ones with thick bands (strip/spine where the lashes are attached) are pretty common to find. They hold their shape better and are easier to apply but they tend to look obvious in daylight. Unless you're going for that look.

If you're starting out however, you'd want them looking as natural as possible. Look for ones with thin bands with real hair or real-looking hair.

false-eyelashes-beginners-tips-and-tricks-how-to-philippine-giveaway-4
But thick bands are easier to apply

Thinner bands are more difficult to put on though. Since the spine is soft and thin it can be a challenge to get it as close to the lash line and make it lay down evenly while keeping the tackiness of the glue —The more you fidget and move it while the glue is semi-dry, the more likely it is to lose its tackiness.

These super affordable "Taiwan" lashes I was sent by bornprettystore are really natural on but hard to "straighten out" (maybe it's my glue?). They're short so they give a little volume but not so much on the length. But if you're lashes are short to begin with [or you don't want something too dramatic], these are good starters.

Get lashes here - Lash Kit 1, Lash Kit 2, Thick band 1 PairAll Lashes

Eyelash Glue not Elmers/Craft Glue

Get a good EYELASH adhesive. One that doesn't burn your eyes or hurt your lashes, stays put throughout the whole wear and can be easily taken off with a makeup remover.

So far, Nichido's glue has worked decently enough. It's affordable, but you don't get a lot. It's in this tiny little white bottle (similar to the ones fragrance companies use to give out perfume samples). Forever 21's lash glue is okay too, according to my sister but the recent Forever 21 glue doesn't compare to the old one she used.

false-eyelashes-beginners-tips-and-tricks-how-to-philippine-giveaway-5
The Eye Charm Glue is apparently an eyelid glue that you can use for falsies. But I don't really like it for the latter. Works well as a double eyelid glue though. Get it here.

Cut your [fake] lashes

Most of the time lashes need to be cut so it won't poke your inner and/or outer eye. They're usually also long to accommodate all eye lengths. So cutting them according to your eye length will not only help with the comfort level but also look nicer. A good tip is to cut the lash in half and only put them on the outer part of your eye - so much easier to apply (at least for me).

Another tip is to cut a strip by into 5- 6 sections and place them wherever you want more lash. It tends to look more natural that way too, albeit a little more time consuming.

false-eyelashes-beginners-tips-and-tricks-how-to-philippine-giveaway-6
Tweezers aren't just for plucking

Applying falsies by hand needs serious practice. Especially if you bought natural, thin, sparse looking falsies with a thin band. Tweezers might help in laying the band flush to your eyeline. Using tweezers also help in maintaining the lash so you can reuse them again.

false-eyelashes-beginners-tips-and-tricks-how-to-philippine-giveaway-6
Use an eyeliner

Hiding the [lash] band is essential for a seamless lashline. Using a liquid liner on the lashline to hide the lash band, and conceal any skin makes it more polished. You can also tightline to darken the flesh of the upper waterline. It helps in making the eyelashes look a little more full — A good tip even if you're not wearing falsies.

As for me. I still struggle. I'm still a noob. I still curse my clumsiness aka poking myself in the eye. But the effect is somehow worth it.

Ah, FS Cosmetics. Makeup Artists' favorite local brand in the Philippines and many a beauty enthusiast's "right-of-passage" product.

It's usually one of the brands that makeup users / lovers here start with on their journey to makeup because of it's affordability, no-nonsense approach and efficacy.

Well they're back at it again with a rebrand : new name, new packaging, new formula and new products.
fs-features-and-shades-cosmetics-rebrand-relaunch-beauty-rendezvouz-2
I was privy to the relaunch of FS Cosmetics / Features & Shades Cosmetics at last month's beauty rendezvous at this adorable-kitschy-urban-cool-looking bar + cafe.

Owner & GM Edmon Ngo, revealing to us that their curlers, rival that of an internationally known Asian curler brand (care to guess which one?) and how to know if your curler is good quality. (psst check for screws under the pad)

I currently own one of these, and they don't pinch my eyes unlike the generic curlers I've tried before.
fs-features-and-shades-cosmetics-rebrand-relaunch-beauty-rendezvouz-8
The makeup artist Yciar Castillo also did a live demo of  FS's products and relating to us that the concealer (and 2-way cake ?) is virtually waterproof once set and blended in.

No forealz, she even did a water (then tissue) test to prove it!

Amazing colour selection for Feature & Shade's eye shadow singles, now with matte packaging. You're also free to mix & match four shades and place it in a sleek matte palette.
fs-features-and-shades-cosmetics-rebrand-relaunch-beauty-rendezvouz-10
These gorgeous bullets (reminiscent of MAC's Viva Glam line) are from their Nude Lipstick collection. They come in matte and creamy finishes.

And based on my swatch, they're very decently pigmented. The bullet themselves have a nice weight to them. Definitely doesn't feel "cheap" or "unsturdy". And I can say that for all of the products I've seen there.

The "Loose Powder Brush" or stippling brush which you can use for both liquids and powders, compacts or loose and dense Slanted Concealer Brush both brushes piqued my interest at the rendezvous.
fs-features-and-shades-cosmetics-rebrand-relaunch-beauty-rendezvouz-13
FS kindly gave me a kit with some of their best-sellers and new products. Do you see the primer?

I'll be testing these out more but if you're interested here are my first impressions on some of them.

  • Mascarade Volumizing Mascara - Natural-volume. Doesn't sting. The formula is a little wet. I want to see if it'll change in a few weeks since I like drier formulas more.
  • FS Primer - Pore-filling silicone primer. Similar to Benefit's Porefessional, even the colour. It beads/bunches up as you rub it but it disappears eventually. No particular feelings about this yet.
  • FS Powder Blushes with Vit. E - GET THESE. THESE ARE GOOD. They come in matte and shimmery shades. The packaging is still glossy though, would've liked it if it were the same with the rest of the products with the matte black. I have mine in twinkle tan and it's a beautiful brown-tawny colour. Beautiful. Swatch it when you get the chance.
  • Loose Powder Brush - Love it. If you're looking for a stippling brush this'll do. This type of brush is very versatile in my opinion.
  • FS Single Eyeshadow in Ash Bronze - Smooth and very pigmented. True to the name it's an ashy type cool-toned brown.
  • FS Luscious Lipstick in Matte Brick - Gorgeous "push" packaging like how the Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks open. Smooth. Matte. Amazing colour pay-off and no strong "old-timey lipstick" smell.
fs-features-and-shades-cosmetics-rebrand-relaunch-beauty-rendezvouz-14With the packaging, [supposed] formula upgrade, line extension and new product inclusions it's safe to say that Features & Shades is really coming-in for the kill in terms of playing with other local and international brands available in the market —whether they be drugstore, mid-range or high-end. I can't wait to see what else they have in store. :)

Have you tried this brand? How about the new products from FS?

CJ

PS. I can't confirm the formula upgrade since I don't have the "old" products in my possession.
PPS. Makeup Artist Fanny Serrano's contract with FS ended in 2011 explaining the name change. FS is owned by Cosmetics Revelation Corporation.

Eyebrow Mascara, Pencil or Powder? - Maybelline Brow Product Guide + Review

maybelline-brow-pencil-duo-shaper-master-brow-3d-contouring-palette-mascara-review-guide-1
There are a slew of brow products out there and it can get confusing especially to a complete beginner. The pencil, a majority favorite especially in the Philippines have other fast-growing competitors now. Namely, the brow gel/mascaras and brow powders.

There are a few more types out there but let's just stick with these three. All three can be found under drugstore-darling, Maybelline.

maybelline-brow-pencil-duo-shaper-master-brow-3d-contouring-palette-mascara-review-guide-2
The Pencil : Master Brow (Php 249)

A twist-up slim brow pencil with an ultra-soft finish. Features a 2-in-1 oval head which allows for easy application. Lasts for 24 hours. Comes in Brown and Gray.

The pencil is retractable as do all Maybelline brow pencils. The lid snaps shut and won't have the tendency to accidentally open inside your bag. Same with the other pencil featured in this post. It's a little loose though. I have this pencil in gray, and while I think the colour is passable with my black hair I really hate this pencil. Harsh verdict yes, but let me elaborate.

The pencil is a little soft and has a tendency to break if you're heavy-handed. Because of the texture and the slimness, I have snapped off at least 2 - 3 mm of said pencil while using it. The lead is a little waxy for my taste. It clings and tugs at my brows as I use it so I always see brow hairs at the tip of the pencil :(. Another problem I have with it is that it applies "crumbly" and patchy. Like it balls up as I apply it (naglilibag) and drags a little. It's not the smoothest pencil out there.

By the time I brush it out, since it clings more to the hair, I find bald spots where the pencil didn't stick to the skin. If I fill those spots in however, the brows looks too strong and by this point I could very well be casted as the next Live Action version of Rock Lee .

One redeeming factor about this pencil is that it's hard to smudge. You really have to rub hard to get it to come off without oil and/or soap and water. Waxy pencils like this are used more if you want to lay down your brow hairs and keep them in place.maybelline-brow-pencil-duo-shaper-master-brow-3d-contouring-palette-mascara-review-guide-3
The Pencil + Powder : Fashion Brow Duo Shaper / Brow Satin Brows (US/Europe) (Php 299)

For naturally defined and softer, fuller brows. Features a 2mm slim pencil and a similar coloured silicone powder at the other end. Comes in Light Brown and Brown.

It's pretty decent. I have this in light brown and it's a yellow-golden-brown colour. Not at all orange or reddish on the skin. I think it's perfect for blondes or light haired people. Reminiscent of Glam21's Skinny Brow Pencil, the "lead" product is tiny and glides on better than the Master Brow. It's still a bit waxy for my taste but it's not patchy and doesn't "ball-up".

The brow powder on the other end has a sponge-tip applicator similar to an eyeliner smudger. It's soft and dispenses powder well enough. You dip it in the cap where the powder is located and tap it in a few times. To some people it may get a little tedious to tap it in the cap to get more product for each brow, but it's not a big deal for me.

The finish and effect of this pencil duo is a more natural brow. Especially since I have it in a lighter shade. Apart from the obvious blonde-ish brow, you can't tell I have something on them. It's easy to draw "brow hairs" with the pencil tip and the powder helps set it in place.

How to Use : You can either use pencil or powder first whichever you prefer. Define and fill-in the brows with the pencil end then use the powder to set it OR tap the powder on the inner part of the brow then fill-in and define the rest. The powder is on the cap of the powder-sponge end
maybelline-brow-pencil-duo-shaper-master-brow-3d-contouring-palette-mascara-review-guide-4
The Powder : Fashion Brow 3D Contouring Palette / Brow Drama Pro Palette (US) / Master Brow Pro Palette (EU) (Php 299)

An all-in-one nose & brow palette, complete with a double ended brush. It features two brow powders and one wax.

Marketed as a brow powder and nose contour in one palette, this multi-tasker is something I would pick over the two mentioned pencils. If only for the fact that I have more uses (hello matte shadows!) with this plus I don't pull out my own brow hairs.

The packaging is plasticky and the lid shuts tight. Not the most sturdy but it's typical of most palette drugstore packaging. It looks nice though.

The wax is well waxy, sticky and creamy. Applied with a brush it doesn't pluck my brow hairs while using unlike the pencils. The two powders are smooth and not overly-pigmented. You might think that's bad but these aren't really supposed to be as pigmented as eyeshadows. Brow powders are usually not-so-pigmented so it's easier to build-up and there's lesser chance to over-do them.

The lightest colour in this dark brown palette is a nice light yellow-brown powder. This works best as the nose contour for light to medium skinned people. The second powder is a taupey medium-brown with a hint of purple and can look a bit red as a nose contour. It works well as a stand-alone brow powder though. The last colour is a dark chocolate brown wax. The resulting brow look has warmth to it but it doesn't look too red. The outcome of this wax plus the darker powder yields a warmer brow colour. It's not ugly or weird against my hair colour per se, but I think I look better with cool toned dark brows.

Note : There are slight differences between the Asian, US and Europe versions. The 3D palette feature a wax, two powders for brow and nose contouring and a double ended brush. The US release features a wax, brow powder, brow highlight, a spoolie/screw brush and double ended brush. The EU release features the same contents as the US without the spoolie/screw brush.

maybelline-brow-pencil-duo-shaper-master-brow-3d-contouring-palette-mascara-review-guide-4
The Mascara : Fashion Brow Mascara (Php 249)

Features an angle-free ball brush comb. A "Clump-free" brow mascara/gel that holds brows up to 12 hours. Gives brows a fuller look and natural colour. Comes in Dark Brown, Rusty Brown and Yellow Brown.

I really like this stuff. The ball brush tip — a minesweeper doppelganger—can take some getting used to but the finish and effect it gives more than makes up for it. It holds my brows in place throughout the day and tints it as well as the skin underneath and makes it look full. Personally I can wear this without doing the pencil or powder underneath.

I have it in dark brown and doesn't give me that red/orangey tinge. I have repurchased this already and I really like this better than the Nichido one.

What to get? | Recommendations

Get the Master Brow if you like waxy retractable pencils that hold your brows in place without the need for a brow mascara/gel.

Get the Brow Shaper Duo if you want a powder to set your pencil with to make it look more natural and make it last longer (K-Palette has something similar).

Get the 3D Contouring Palette if you prefer wax and powders that you apply with a brush. This palette has more versatility and control over how the brow looks. You get a nose contour and eyeshadows in a pinch as well.

Get the Fashion Brow Mascara if you have full brows and just want to tint them a little and/or make them neat. You can also use this over brow powders and pencils to make it look more full and natural apart from keeping it in place.

maybelline-brow-pencil-duo-shaper-master-brow-3d-contouring-palette-mascara-review-guide-6

Personal Picks | Additional Info

I'd get the Brow Mascara (personally repurchased 2x) and Brow Palette over the two pencils. Both pencils are too waxy for me and they PULL OUT MY BROW HAIRS!!! :(

One thing to note about the pencils are that they are sealed in plastic when you buy them and all the information is on there. So when you lose that plastic (provided you can actually read the tiny condensed text) your shade colour, ingredients information, weight, manufacturing date etc are gone.

I mean you can google them and shiz but ain't nobody got time fo' dat. But to be honest it's not on Maybelline's website.

Have you tried any of these? Which one would you prefer to try?

CJ

What to Wear to a Music Festival | Coachella and Wanderrland Outfit Inspiration

$
0
0
No flower crowns, hippie headbands and Doc Martens here (I love Doc Martens though).

Music festivals are where fashion-rule-breakers come out to play. Where else can you expect to wear something outrageous and not get judging stares? Feather boa + boots? Go for it!

For the past few music festivals there have been onslaughts of flower crowns, daisy dukes, feathers and flash tattoos. Not that they're ugly or bad (I like daisy dukes and flower crowns myself), maybe it's the rebel in me, but they can get boring and uninteresting especially if every other person's wearing them.

A great way to keep the hair out of the face and keep your scalp from frying under the blaring hot sun is by using a scarf/turban or bandana. The flowy shift dress and gladiator sandals all tie-in with the rest of the accessories.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the prints, retro shades and bright lippie combo here? Love the clogs/mary-janes too.

A shift cotton dress is a welcome alternative to the shorts + tee combo. Easy to put on. Easy to take off. The fringe bag and the cowboy hat take center stage to this beautiful blank canvas,
The black mid-riff off shoulder and whitewash almost white jean shorts. The black booties. The choker. The shades. That cute kitty purse. THE FRINGE! This outfit is definitely frolick-appropriate. Your feet won't hate you at the end of the day and you can run-around and dance without worrying. I'd tie my hair up though because it is unbelievable hot and humid here right now in the Philippines.
Again reminiscent the this whole look including the hair is very 70's vibe. Blue and brown can do no wrong.
The peasant lace blouse is reminiscent of the ye olden times as well as the 70's with the button-fly denim shorts and "fanny-pack" but adding the milkmaid braids and very stylish mirror shades keeps it grounded in this century.

This is everything. The hair. The colour-block. The two-piece. The "Hawaiian" print. The shoes. The sunnies. On point ladies. On point.

My personal style is echoed here and if you can guess all of them feature cotton or lightweight fabrics in easy to move/dance around cuts/styles. I mean it is a music festival, you're expected to at least dance a few times. And as most music festivals are won't to do, you're going to probably be outside in the blaring heat all the way to night so comfort is key.

But like I said comfort is key, so feel free to rock a tank/tee and jeans. I mean after all you're there to enjoy good music (and good company) which you don't necessarily have to dress up for (if you look cute while doing it, that's always a plus. No judgement here) :)

Pinkies Collection Matte Lipstick and Smooth Silk Lip Pencil | Bark, Callalily and Atlantic Review

pinkies-collection-lipstick-bark-callalily-and-lip-pencil-atlantic-review-swatch-1
Part of my gripe before about local lip brands was that they seem to be averse to nudes — pink-nudes, mauve-nudes, peach-nudes, beige-nudes, brown-nudes and so on. There were a few by two (or 3) brands but not much variety. If you wanted a red or pink however you can take your pick amongst the sea of cherry-reds and orange-reds. Now we have BYS, Essence, Wet N Wild and Pinkies Collection for some much needed competition in the local nude lippie scene.

I bought two nude lipsticks from their Matte Collection —Bark and Callalily, they were only ones that suited me best out the four "nude" shades and I figured they were something I could wear a lot. I also swatched their lip pencils and while I didn't necessarily like the texture, I still got Atlantic just to check out the colour on my lips —the chocolate brown looked interesting.

pinkies-collection-lipstick-bark-callalily-and-lip-pencil-atlantic-review-swatch-4
I think that the packaging of these lipsticks is cute, with its sturdy solid plastic light -pink tube, but it is a little bulky and a little excessive on the plastic compared to the actual lipstick inside. In the image above, the two lipsticks look similar, but that's not the case when you swatch them.

The Smooth Silk Lip Pencils are actually marketed as Eye & Lip pencils, possibly because of the other colours in the line ( I saw a purple and blue). The pencil itself is really long for Php 99.  And I think that's pretty cheap.

pinkies-collection-lipstick-bark-callalily-and-lip-pencil-atlantic-review-swatch-5
The colours are very pigmented as you can see. The Matte lipsticks are a true-matte formula meaning they can look dry and can emphasize dry patches especially pale beige-pinky-nude Callalily. It sits well but prepping the lips is still a must. The lipsticks can also feel dry or drying when you're staying in an air-conditioned room and you have to talk a lot (me). Texture-wise, they're creamy but can drag a little on the lips because it's legit matte. Not a deal-breaker for me as I love the colours (Bark, my favorite, is a nice dusky-rose-mauve), the finish and the longevity.

pinkies-collection-lipstick-bark-callalily-and-lip-pencil-atlantic-review-swatch-6
Atlantic is super soft (to the point of breakage if you're not careful) and glides on the lips. The finish gives a little bit of shine. I wouldn't really use this as a lip pencil because I know it will bleed outside the lip-line given how slippery it is. I also wouldn't use this on the eyes. It works very well mixed-in with both lipsticks, giving me more options to how I want to wear Bark and Callalily. Because to be honest, Callalily washes me the F out. It's a little too light unless I wear dark/statement eye makeup or I blot off most of it.

As for the colour of the lip pencil (Atlantic), it's definitely something out of a 90's beauty magazine. It's like a mocha with a hint of gray. I know the lip swatches look warmer but it definitely has some gray to it.

pinkies-collection-lipstick-bark-callalily-and-lip-pencil-atlantic-review-swatch-7
Me giving face.

I'm still adjusting to my digicam which explains the weird lighting of the photos above. Please refer to the other photos for a better idea of the colours.

For Php 198(they were cheaper before :( ) you get a really good pigmented true-matte lippie and for Php 99 a smooth, creamy and pigmented lip pencil/lip colour. These are pretty damn affordable in my opinion.

Have you tried this?  Would you try it? What do you think of the colours?

xx,
CJ

PS. I broke my good camera and now I'm using a digi cam so the colour settings can get challenging when I take a picture of my face. :( The hand swatches and others are easier to manipulate/correct.
PPS. I first mentioned the matte lippies here.

Proud Mary Lacto-Fresh Ctrl A Skincare Line : Lactobacillus for the skin

$
0
0

If you're like me, you're probably more familiar with the term "Lactobacillus/Lactobacilli" in terms of oral consumption like with drinks such as Yakult. You know, the good bacteria that's good for digestion and aids in absorbing nutrients. Probiotics such as these have bacteria strains that help our immune system as well as counter and soothe skin conditions like rosacea (me), dryness (me) and other skin related concerns especially when applied topically.
5 Types of Lactobacillus fermented from plant and grain based agents work together to allow skin's natural rejuvenation at its prime. It is adapted to each type of skin problem by caring sensitivity with building its own defenses. - Proud Mary

This skincare line by Korean brand Proud Mary with a tagline of Beauty Lies Within Simplicity, talk the talk by addressing sensitive skin concerns with its Lacto-Fresh Ctrl A line from cleansing to moisturizing. The plant-derived ingredients its made from, target cell renewal/growth so it helps heal the skin and helps strengthen it so it can build up its own defenses.

Natural Whipping Cleanser | 50g | 150g Full Size - Plant derived agent minimizes skin irritants and small molecule lactobacillus hydrates skin while delicately cleansing makeup and skin impurities.

Ingredients: Water, Palmitic Acid, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Myristic Acid, Lactobacillus/Acerola Cherry Ferment, Lactobacillus/Eriodictyon Californicum Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactobacillus/Olive Leaf Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus Punica Granatum Fruit Ferment Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Rosmarinus Officialis (Rosemary) Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, Polygonum Fagopyrum (Buckwheat) Seed Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Phaseolus Radiatus Extract, 1, 2- Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, PEG-150, Polyquaternium-7, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Polycrylate, Fragrance

The painted white glass bottles feel very luxe as befitting of its Php 3,999 price tag. The whole set is pricey yes, but it's pretty understandable considering that the brand name is hailed for using sophisticated technology and incorporating high concentration of natural extracts in its products.

Pure Calming Toner | 120ml - Sub-acid toner helps regulate pH balance and calms irritants effectively with small molecule lactobacillus and botanical active agents.

Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Polyglutamic Acid, Glycerine, Sodium Hyaluronic, Lactobacillus/Acerola Cherry Ferment, Lactobacillus/Eriodictyon Califoricum Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactobacillus/Olive Leaf Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus/Punica Granatum Fruit Ferment Extract, Rosemary Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Lavender Extract, Betaine, Trehalose, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Buckwheat Seed Extract, Soybean Seed Extract, Phaseolus Radiatus Extract, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Anise Fruit Extract, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Arginine, Fragrance

I apply this milky-white toner by squirting some on my hand and patting it on my face than using a cotton and wiping it on. Why? When you have sensitive skin and/or acne prone skin putting friction by rubbing or wiping can agitate it and make it worse. I've done the patting technique (that I've seen in K-Beauty shows lol) for about a year or two already and my face is significantly less red when I do it this way.

I do succumb to wiping with a cotton sometimes when my eyes are too tired and I'm too lazy to wash my face. (Update : I'm out of my toner!)

Skin Relief Essence | 50ml - Botanical lactobacillus helps regulate excessive sebum production and a variety of soothing agents alleviate irritation and stress.

Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Methicone Copolymer (Hydrogen Dimethicone), C12-14 Pareth-7, Betaine, Glycerin, Magnolia Kobus Bark Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Camellia Sinesis Leaf Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Propolis Extract, Thujopsis Dolabrata BRANCH Extract, Polyglutamic Acid, Panthenol, Lactobacillus/Acerola Cherry Ferment, Lactobacillus/Eriodictyon Califoricum Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactobacillus/Olive Leaf Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus/Punica Granatum Fruit Ferment Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Rosmarinus Officialis (Rosemary) Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, Polygonum Fagopyrum (Buckwheat) Seed Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Phaseolus Radiatus Extract, Pyridoxine, Arginine, Carbomer, Dimethicone, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Sodium Polyacrylate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Trideceth-6, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance

This essence is a gel-cream-like consistency that gets absorbed by the skin easily. All of these have a very light floral/apothecary scent to it, which I find very soothing. It's light enough to use during the day even for people with oily skin.

Perfect Cure Cream | 50ml - 5 types of botanical lactobacillus and soothing agents help reinforce cell density and protect skin from irritants. Soothes and moisturizes all day long.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycereth-26, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Betaine, Magnolia Kobus Bark Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Propolis Extract, Thujopsis Dolabrata Branch Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Caprylic Triglyceride, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Lactobacillus Cherry Ferment, Lactobacillus/Eriodictyon Califoricum Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactobacillus/Olive Leaf Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus/Punica Granatum Fruit Ferment Extract, Panthenol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Rosemary Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Lavender Extract, Buckwheat Seed Extract, Soybean Seed Extract, Phaseolus Radiatus Extract, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Sodium Acrylate, Trideceth-6, PEG/PPG-18-18 Dimethicone, Xanthan Gum, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance

This cure cream, feels like a primer but doesn't feel like I have a mask on, as with most "silicone-y" primers I've tried.

I actually like this whole line. I think everything delivers on the moisturizing factor, but unless I have a cellular tracking machine or whatever, I wouldn't really know the difference with other brands I've tried.

No freak breakouts or rosacea triggers. I do however have to put it out there that the whipping cleanser didn't agree with me all that much. I didn't full-on break-out but I did get a few bumps all over my face and this set was the only one I've changed in my routine.

Other than that I see that they use significantly greater ingredients compared to other commercial products which can get expensive even if they're "drugstore". It has a lot of plant extracts and I think these do and can make a difference overtime.

I feel confident recommending this line to other sensitive skinned / acne-prone people but as always be vigilant that what works for me might not work for you. So if you see ingredients at the top of the first few lines that you know for a fact don't agree with you, I'd skip on it.

You also have the option of getting the individuals. But if you want to try the whole line, you get more for your buck by getting this gift set. Get it here.

xx,
CJ

Affordable Makeup | One Brand Face | Features & Shades : FS Cosmetics

$
0
0

Well one-brand for the most part. I did stray here and there (eyebrows and the powder). I'm also putting a dedicated review on some other products mentioned and not mentioned here (powder, lipstick).

I finally get to tackle the brand-spanking re-brand FS did with some old favorites and new additions. If you've seen my previous post about the newly re-launched FS Cosmetics or Features & Shades here you might be wondering what's really worth checking out and what can you pass up on. Here's my "one-brand" face of the day /makeup of the day with their products with quips on what I think of them.

Let's start with primer.

Aptly named "Primer" this pre-foundation base comes in a squeeze-tube (nice) and has 20g of product in it. That's a pretty decent amount since you really don't need a lot of this all over the face. This one especially tends to ball-up with the foundation if you use way too much.

Texture and appearance-wise it's very similar to Benefit's Porefessional. It's a silicone primer and it performs (I assume) as most silicone primers do. This does blur the pores and smoothes the skin leaving it velvety.

I personally don't subscribe to the notion that silicone primers or face primers in general makes makeup last long. I haven't seen a difference. I've tried the Maybelline and the Quick FX primers and they're all the same to me. One thing I can say is that this primer is heavily fragranced. The scent is very floral and "perfume-y".

For my actual base, I chose to go with FS's BB cream in Oriental. There are 3 shades available, this being the middle one. It claims to be a sun protectant, foundation, concealer and moisturizer. Basically an all-in-one product (as most BB creams tend to claim) but the concealer part is pushing it a bit.

I do really like this. It's smooth, blends in well, looks natural, feels light on the skin, moisturizing, has at most a (well...almost when you build it up) medium coverage and has an olive undertone to it (perfect) BUT...

It appears slightly ashy on me. I blame it on the spf for the slightly walking-dead appearance initially but it does adjust to your skin a little in about 10 - 15 minutes especially when set with a powder of your shade. It also has this light citrusy-floral fragrance that I don't mind unlike the primer.

I find it a little annoying that they didn't put exactly how much sun protection you get with this, so I suggest using a separate SPF. I also wouldn't suggest this to people with oily skin as this is quite moisturizing, glowy and tacky and stays that way if you don't set it. People with dry patches (me) would do well to exfoliate prior because this BB clings a little. Other than that, it's a nice everyday type of base for people who are okay with light coverage foundations (BBs/CCs).

This pretty "I'm ready for summer" blush in Twinkle Tan is gorgeous on the skin. It's like a bronzey blush with fine gold shimmer. It's smooth and very pigmented. If I had to recommend one thing out of everything here I'd suggest this one. The finish is this very gleamy highlighted-satin sheen — You won't need a separate highlighter with this for sure.

I haven't tried this for over 12 hours but for a typical 8-hour day it lasts well. Especially since it's less than P500, as with every product in this post.

This amazing True Light Liquid Lipstick in Glossy Peony is very pretty. Half of it because of the nice matte packaging and the light inside when you open it.

I would consider this more of a lipgloss than a "liquid lipstick". I think my perception of liquid lipsticks have been escalated because of the numerous liquid lipsticks that have been coming out for the past 2 - 3 years or so. It's not sticky like a typical gloss and it's decently pigmented as well. I would go as far as to say it's slightly moisturizing. Lip prep is important though because it settles in the cracks.

The colour is a pretty milky medium-peachy-rose with golden shimmer. Don't be put off by the shimmer though, it's really really nice on the lips. Not chunky "glitters" at all. It feels comfortable on, no strong scent nor taste and THE LIGHT GUYS. THE LIGHT!!!

For the eyeshadow I have their single eyeshadow in Ash Brown. It's a pigmented matte cool-toned dark brown. Rubbing my finger on the pan, it feels slightly gritty but for the most part it's smooth and blends well with a brush.

There's also a wide selection of colours and finishes. You can pop these in a four pan palette that they sell so you can customize your own palette. Richly pigmented, versatile and affordable for a whopping 4g, this will last long.

The black Mascarade Volumizing Mascara is okay. It builds up okay on itself. The pigment is really black and the brush is the normal bristled mascara brush I prefer but it only yields a natural lash look even after numerous coats. As you can see from the picture that's the extent of the the volumizing part it can do for my sparse lashes. For 10g, it's a decent pick for the price when you don't know which brand to go for.

It's not smudge-proof and waterproof, though it doesn't claim to be. But it's water-resistant so there's that. Like I said. It's okay but not something I'd purchase on my own. I like mascaras that give a lot of volume.

Final result. A very no-makeup makeup look. After running errands and being out for more than 5 hours, the bb cream and blush performed really well. I guess the primer also did its job? The mascara and shadow were still there too. But the shadow faded a little bit maybe an eye primer would do the trick next time. I was most surprised about the blush though, I only put a little but it still held on at the end of the day.

I also didn't break out. To be honest though I only used the primer twice but I had the sinking feeling it would break me out if I used it consecutively. I also couldn't stand the scent so that's the only thing I used twice.

Other products used : Palgantong/3WC Powder in #23 as setting powder and for eyebrows I used Pinkies Collection brow pencil in black, Glam21 pencil and Maybelline brow mascara in Dark Brown.

[Reference : Sensitive, dry-normal skin, slightly oily t-zone and dry patches. Sweaty boy.]

Like I mentioned, everything here is less than Php 500. So the brand on the whole is pretty affordable. What would you try from this brand? Which FS product would you like an in-depth review on? My personal picks are the gloss, shadow and blush.

Waxing with Sugar at Whipped BGC | First time Waxing Experience

$

0

If this adorable salon's name and motif isn't enough to remind you of cotton candy, lollipops and rainbows you will when I tell you they use sugar for all of their services. Melted (pulled? taffy-like?) sugar for waxing and scrubbing. Yes like the sugar you eat. Interested? Read on.

A little disclaimer, I don't pluck my underarms. I've been using razors or removal creams but it's been a years since I've plucked them. So my tolerance for pain in this regard is pretty damn low. What more waxing.

Guuurl there was blood and pain, not going to lie. But the my attendant or sugar technician was very kind and accommodating. She decided to switch to plucking when the bleeding wasn't stopping. I was glad to switch to tweezers let me tell you, I barely felt it #numb.

One thing to note though, you're supposed to have your underarms waxed when there's about an inch of hair not less, to make it easier to pull out and to make it more comfortable for you. Blame me for going there with a 5 day overgrowth, my sugar attendant did mention it was harder to pull out because of the short hair.

For those who haven't tried underarm waxing at Whipped, it goes like this:
  • Polite sugar techs asking for your reservation.
  • They'll show you to an enclosed room and ask you to lie down.
  • Maybe ask a few questions here or there about your hair removal.
  • A wipe-down to clean and to remove deodorant residue.
  • The waxing itself using the soft pliable cold sugar wax.
  • Plucking smaller and/or thinner hair that didn't get caught by the wax.
  • Then another wipe-down.
  • Smooth armpits :)

They didn't get ALL my underarm hair, but seeing as the ones left were very thin and small like peach-fuzz—too thin to be plucked, I guess it's understandable.

As for the eyebrow waxing that was leagues more tolerable, very similar to my experience with brow threading here.

Quiet atmosphere (I believe I was the only client at the time), comfortable and charming decor. If you're thinking of where to get waxing done maybe you should check them out. They're popular with guys as well (which I like) so guys please don't let the decor deter you! (they're just colours, c'mon)

Spotlight : Weens Polishes | Vegan, Cruelty-free 5-Free and Proudly PH!

$

I always get a nice surprise whenever I hear about a locally-available brand that's cruelty-free AND vegan. There's a couple now in the market, mostly indie online-centric brands that you can only shop at through Instagram or Facebook.
Weens Cosmetics Philippines is the 1st and only brand, manufacturing 5 Free Non-toxic formula, Cruelty Free and Vegan nail polish locally. Made from imported raw materials and FDA approved. - Weens Cosmetics Philippines

I'm not crazy about nail polishes to be honest. I have a few in my vanity and I rarely use them. I'm more into nail strengtheners and nail oils. Part of the reason why is because a lot of readily accessible polish brands have toxic chemicals in them that damage my already brittle nails. This where this brands' 5Free promise comes in.

What do you mean by "5 Free"?, you might ask. It means that these polishes are made without formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, and toluene along with the allergens camphor and formaldehyde resin—all potentially dangerous ingredients that could do everything from disrupt your endocrine system to cause cancer. (via)

Being already familiar with toxin-free vegan polish brands thanks to Picture Polish, I'm happy to share with you guys that you don't have to buy abroad to get some because...Weens. :)) (Seriously though isn't the name so interesting to say?)

Posted are some of Weens polishes from their latest collection— QT Nail Magic. I'm partial to the Emerald green one (Voyage). But which one do you like best? Do you use vegan/cruelty-free polishes?

Review : 4U2 DreamGirl Faith BB Cream

4u2-faith-girl-bb-cream-review-swatches-1
I put a cute little bird because it's cute, like this line. And because...why not?

The search for a nice affordable base is never done. I've had this for quite a while. The tube still has some product inside but I gave up on making it work on my skin. It just doesn't look right. Read on for what I think.

BelAir Cosmetics, the company that made the brand 4U2 (and this BB Cream), is a US company but made in Thailand. Understandably it's quite popular in Thailand as well as Malaysia and the Philippines.

4u2-faith-girl-bb-cream-review-swatches-2

Packaging  |  Price

I quite like the simple tube packaging. The whole "Love Pink" line is very affordable. The packaging is pretty evident that it's catered to the much younger (teen/pre-teen) crowd. I don't really care that much about the teeny-bopper-ness of the packaging as long as the product performed to my standards.

4u2-faith-girl-bb-cream-review-swatches-3
4u2-faith-girl-bb-cream-review-swatches-4

Texture  |  Scent  |  Application

It's creamy, smooth and mouse-y (not runny). On the skin it feels very lightweight. It kinda has this medicated scent to it. I prefer this type of scent than the generic makeup or foundati on smell.

Application is easy. Using a dense brush it gives a medium coverage from the get-go. Opting for a sponge (or a damn one) yields a lighter coverage. You can build up the coverage, but I feel like it won't be legitimately "full coverage". It's close though. It sets pretty quickly on me, so I can easily touch my face right afterwards and not feel any stickiness. It also doesn't dry out my skin. It can make dry patches look a little obvious though.

4u2-faith-girl-bb-cream-review-swatches-5

As for the colour-match. Oy vey. The dreaded BB cream dilemma especially for Asian brands. This BB cream only comes in one shade. And it's a very peachy-pink-neutral leaning to cool one at that. So it looks off on me and you know from 10 feet away that my face doesn't match my neck. I look pink and ashy. Yes it's possible.

4u2-faith-girl-bb-cream-review-swatches-6

Experience

Looking at the swatch you'd think that there's a decent amount of warmth or yellow in it. I believe it oxidizes to a more cooler tone or maybe that's just on me. Either way there's only one shade and it won't be a one-size-fits-all thing, it rarely is. If you're a fair, light or NC/NW 20-25 in shade you might match with this.

For wear/longevity, it lasted well (around 5-8 hours) on my normal-dry sensitive skin with oily t-zone. It has a tendency to cling to dry patches as I've said because of the texture. It did significantly fade at the end of the day but in a graceful way. It didn't crack, coagulate (whut) or separate on me. It just lost pigment and I think it's a really nice aspect of this.

4u2-faith-girl-bb-cream-review-swatches-7

I also have a problem with how it's marketed as BB cream. "Real" legitimate BB creams, at the very least Korean ones, always have SPF in them plus other nice ingredients for the skin. Always. Otherwise it's called foundation. So I was pretty bummed that this didn't contain any sun protection at all. I feel like I wasted my money with this. It's not a lot of money but for something that I didn't like and was never going to use again (not a bb cream people) it's still money.

There are a lot of good things about this BB cream, make no mistake. The only caveat (for me) ultimately is the usual cry for better shade selection. I mean I didn't even bother with a face swatch. Just imagine a ruddy-ashy face. Apart from the terrible shade selection, it's performed well. Ultimately though I wouldn't get this again nor would I recommend it.

xx,
CJ

PS. Wore the foundation for about 6 - 8 times. I tried to make it work by mixing it with other foundations but the gray and ruddiness still shows through.
PPS. I know there are foundations with SPF and/or firming/moisturizing/anti-aging claims. It's just that when you say BB cream (or CC cream) it's supposed to be a "supercharged", "next-level" tinted moisturizer. This 4U2 one, for me, is just foundation. Suffice to say my faith was eradicated with this BB. Eh?Eh?Eh?*nudge**nudge* *hint**hint*... :'( Ok...

Liese Bubble Hair Colour Launch | Easy DIY Colour for Asian Hair

$

It's really a Do-It-Yourself kind of DIY, not the Hey-I-need-your-help-sis/mom/bro/pet-to-put-this-mixture-that-smells-a-little-like-piss-on-me-DIY.

A lot of people have coloured hair here in the Philippines. And why not, it's a sure-fire way to revamp your look. I mean I've changed my hair's colour countless times whether at home or at the salon. Really good salons can get expensive, especially if you want something more than the typical shades of dark brown and sometimes salons can get it wrong too. Plus you're a busy superwoman juggling 10 things at once who has time to go to a salon anyway?

So you put your fate into your own hands and try to colour it yourself, but as most DIY box colours go, you end up with a blotchy mess and dry hair.

The magic of Liese Creamy Bubble Colour does away with that uneven, patchy end-result. Because it's legit easy to use by yourself. The colour is spread evenly because the bubbles reach areas where cream can't unless, like I mentioned, someone else does it for you.

Design your own bag booth.

NOTE : Liese (Lee-Zay) is apparently very popular in Malaysia and Singapore apart from Japan.

This cotton candy was a MESS. Looked nice for pictures though.

For Php 449 a box, it's at par with most boxed dyes at the store. Japan's #1 hair dye brand is number one for a reason. Their product is specially formulated for Asian hair and comes in a tonne of colours (16 originally).

How to Use

  1. Mix the formula in the bottle with the foamer cap
  2. Massage the solution into the hair
  3. Rinse the solution off after 30 minutes.

Instructions in English

What's inside the box

Liese BHC (Bubble Hair Color)—distributed by Vibelle locally— has six variants for us to choose from and they're all, understandably, in the brown family. It's too bad they didn't bring the other colours here because they have this black with a greenish tint to it that caught my eye.

Affordable. Goof-proof. 30 mins* to a new permanent hair colour. That's not bad at all. What do you think?

xx,
CJ

*30 mins depends on hair type and texture.
*If you know you have a sensitive scalp please do a patch test first! There's one included in the box. :)

PS. I was supposed to dye my hair using this, unfortunately, I had mine dyed BLACK and this won't work because of that so I had to give it away.

Affordable Non-sticky Glosses For People Who Hate Glosses

affordable-non-sticky-glosses-cheap-drugstore-1Goopy, sheer, thick and extremely sticky. This was really popular in the early to mid-2000s. And I didn't really care for them. The smelt nicer than the typical lipsticks at the time. Came in cuter packaging and cool (Lizzie MacGuire a.k.a. life peg) people wore them. But I just couldn't get over the constant hair sticking to the lip scenario. Not to mention it looked like I ate something really oily because most lip glosses available to me were reaaaaaally sheer. So I stayed away from them.

I did use a lot of eyeliner though in college, freshman year, but that's another story.

Fast-forward to today glosses have come back into my good graces but not without hurdles. Sticky glosses are still out there especially in the affordable department but I've come across some gems that are worth checking out if you don't like sticky glosses. Plus they're affordable!

affordable-non-sticky-glosses-cheap-drugstore-2
FS, Essence and Maybelline have impressed me in terms of colour pay-offf, texture and wear. I mean these aren't the most long wearing if you're comparing them with today's "it" item — matte liquid lipsticks, hello these are glosses. But if you're someone who's sworn off glosses because of what I wrote above you might want to look at these next time you're looking for something with a little shine.

affordable-non-sticky-glosses-cheap-drugstore-3
affordable-non-sticky-glosses-cheap-drugstore-4
Maybelline and Essence have the most interesting wands. They work as well as the typical doe-foot applicators in most glosses but I find Maybelline's "petal" tip just a notch better than the rest. Essence's want tip is also good because it's flat and "paddle"-like so you can get a more precise application.

affordable-non-sticky-glosses-cheap-drugstore-5
FS Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Glossy Peony is something I would classify more as a gloss. Maybe if this was released 6 years prior it would be classified as such but with better liquid lipstick formulas out there (not necessarily matte) it would be more apt to call this a gloss.

It has a peachy-muted-carnation colour to it. It applies smoothly and has nice sleek packaging (comes with a light in the wand). Feels light on the lips and doesn't have any particular smell.

Retails for under Php 500.

affordable-non-sticky-glosses-cheap-drugstore-6
Essence XXXL Shine Lip Gloss in Nude Candy is, for me, more of a "topping" gloss. I can't wear this alone because it's streaky as hell and makes my dry lips look drier. The colour is a white-based-light-pink that's more appropriate for someone with skin tone ranging from MAC NC/NW15 - NC/NW20 or NC/NW40 and up. It has very few white micro-shimmers running through it that are hardly noticeable (and barely felt). It also smells like sweet candy. :)

This feels slightly moisturizing on the lips and feels light. Sometimes I use this as my lip balm just to use it up at home and it does okay for my perpetually dry flaky lips.

Pssst...I heard this was a dupe for Nars' Turkish Delight.

affordable-non-sticky-glosses-cheap-drugstore-7
Essence XXXL Shine Lip Gloss in Wood of Roses. Can you tell I love this more than the Nude Candy? I mean look at that knowing smirk.

As I've mentioned this feels light and slightly moisturizing on the lips. The rosey-brown looks really nice on a lot of skin tones in my opinion. This does have multi-coloured micro-shimmers through it, some red, silver and gold but as you can see it's not frosty or overwhelmingly glittery. You don't feel the glitter too when you put your lips together.

Retails for under Php 200. Bought on sale for Php 99

affordable-non-sticky-glosses-cheap-drugstore-8
Ah my top pick out of everything (Essence's Wood of Roses a close second) Maybelline Lip Polish in Glam 6. (This is called Colour Elixir in EU and US.) When you first look at the tube you'd expect a purple, but it's more of a berry-red when swatched. I wanted it to be more violet/purple but I don't mind as much. This one's completely devoid of micro-shimmers unlike the rest of the lip glosses mentioned.

The texture of this is quite interesting. This was marketed as a pigmented lip gloss + balm hybrid and it's spot on. The texture is creamy, smooth and thick but lightweight. It feels like you've just put on a lip balm. It keeps my lips hydrated, smooth and moist plus it gives really good colour and shine. You can apply it sheer or apply it full-on to get something like I did above. I just really like the way this feels on me! Plus it leaves a nice tint on the lips. :)

Retails for under Php 300.

What do you think of lip glosses in general? Have you tried anything from my picks?

xx,
CJ

PS. My "before" lips were scrubbed and moisturized with a balm for this review. I spared you my crusty lips in its natural form. I didn't prep them though when I took the Essence Nude Candy lip swatch. Which is why...

Food Adventure Time : Sopoong Food House

$

So my penchant for Kbeauty has always come hand-in-hand with Korean cuisine. I'm always on the lookout for food and restaurants that I haven't tried. I wanted to try one of the many Korean restaurants/cafes in Ortigas and I decided on Sopoong Food House. I wanted something cold that day (we went there during the heat wave here in the PH around March or April) so cold desserts were the goal.

Injeolmi 인절미 Bingsu 빙수 (Korean Milk Ice Sorbet) is a Korean summer dessert. It's milk ice sorbet (shaved iced milk) with Korean glutinous rice cakes, mochi and sweetened red bean paste with roasted soybean powder.

It was surprisingly good, I was expecting otherwise because the "large" we ordered didn't look large at all (more of a medium) and it was Php 290. Don't expect it to "fill you" as it's definitely just something sweet cool you down.

It was decently priced naman. I would rather it be around Php 250 though, but it's not that bad.

The actual rip-off was the "large" Aloe Drink in this superfluous mason jar. Yeah. No. For Php70, it was not worth it. It tasted like the generic aloe drinks you get from convenience stores for much cheaper.

If I were an asshole, I wouldn't really go back there to be honest. The other food choices weren't appetizing (based on the picture) and I feel like they were way overpriced for what they were really worth. But I'm keeping an open mind, since I didn't really try their bestsellers.

The interiors were really nice though. Props for that.

Have you tried this dessert?

xx,
CJ

PS. I found a recipe! To those of you who want to make your own. It's modified of course and feel free to modify your Injeolmi to your taste as well! http://mykoreankitchen.com/korean-milk-ice-sorbet/
PPS. Don't you think this is similar to the Philippines' Halo-halo? :)

As part of any makeup wearer's routine, makeup removal is priority in cleansing. Before your head hits that pillow your skin should be clean. There are different ways of taking off makeup but you're no lazy girl. You don't need "A Lazy Girl's Guide to Cleansing". If you're like me, you take makeup cleansing seriously.

But which one should you go for? There are a lot of ways to take off makeup, like I mentioned. Some face washes do it perfectly (ZA Cleansing Gel -- so good) other people prefer towelettes, but today we're focusing on cleansing creams/balms, cleansing oils and cleansing waters/micellar waters.

V6 - Vegeeco Cleansing Oil - P1,270SALE P640
Perfect for the natural/organic-ingredient-loving type. Apart from having the proven powers of olive and almond it also contains stem-cell from super foods like tomato, rice and green tea.

Banila Co - Clean It Zero Sherbet Cleanser - P1,320SALE P1,040
This sherbet-like balm cleanser literally melts off your makeup as you massage it in. You don't need a lot and it melts off waterproof makeup like nobody's business too, part of the reason why it's so famous.

Holika Holika - Gonyak Soft Jelly in Cleansing Cream - P534SALE P400
Initially I was "okay" with how it performed with a damp cloth/wet wipe. It pretty decent but necessarily amazing until I tried washing it off with just water. Game changer. It's 4-Free too. Meaning there are NO silicones, NO benzophenone (linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, and organ system toxicity. - source) , NO triethylamine anime (known human respiratory toxicant - source) and NO artificial color.

Note : This also emulsifies when it hits water! Like cleansing oils :)

The Saem Healing Tea Garden Cleansing Waters - P420SALE P270
I use the green tea version and holy crap it's so good. It's been touted as an alternative to Bioderma's version only better because it's cheap. Takes off everything including waterproof mascara. You can skip cleansing creams and oils and just use this if you're only wearing light makeup.

Comes in 3 variants (White Tea, Green Tea and Tea Tree)

Which ones have you tried and/or want to try?
